On May 30th me and a bunch of other exchange-students loaded up two buses and left for a 3 week trip around Europe. I won’t include all the details mainly because I am way behind in blogging and I’ve been home for 2 weeks.. Also because I am reminded my family reads these posts..
We began with boarding the ship that left from Turku to Stockholm! The ship went overnight and we arrived to Sweden in the morning. After arriving we drove through Stockholm and eventually stopped at this Castle to pee, unfortunately some people forgot that in order to be Swedish you need to pee on castles.
Arriving in Stockholm:
The bathroom:
Just before leaving Sweden we stopped in a little Swedish village..
We then took the ferry from Helsingborg, Sweden to Helsingor, Denmark! We drove through Denmark until we arrived in Copenhagen (aka the only reason people come to Denmark) (Sorry Denmark). Once in Copenhagen we went straight to Tivoli Gardens (2nd oldest amusement park in the world) (cotton candy still fresh).
Tivoli Gardens:
Exploring Copenhagen in the evening:
The next day we had a guided city tour, (Take a shot every time you here “guided city tour” in this post..
We saw things like this fountain donated by Carlsberg..
This church..
Drove past Little Amsterdam..
Where the Danish Royal Family lives and watched the changing of the guards..
Also took a shift guarding the family..
And the famous Little Mermaid Statue that calls the police if you touch her.
Once I decided not to touch it, it was time to leave for the Netherlands! But we had to stay overnight in Bremen, Germany. The only thing that happened in Bremen was me breaking a 40 euro light and someone else dropping a plate of the 4th floor balcony. Germany is just an out of control country..
The next day we arrived in the Netherlands destined for Amsterdam! Along the drive through the Netherlands we stopped at a Dutch cheese farm to pet the goats and eat the cheese.
Driving across the sea..
At the farm:
Once we arrived in Amsterdam we did what anyone would do first, we went to the grocery store and got bicycle bells angrily rung at us for being in the way wherever we went. Once the main attractions were taken care of we got a boat tour around the canals and saw more of the city.
After the boat tour we got to do one of the best parts of the whole Euro-tour, visit the Anne Frank House/museum. Inside you couldn’t take pictures but there is no photo you could take that would do the museum justice. Just being on the inside was incredible and is what makes this trip around Europe so memorable.
The next day we left Amsterdam, stopped for a few hours in Brussels, and arrived in Paris! We stopped in Brussels for another “guided city tour” and saw all the peeing boy statues. Brussels was my favourite city on this trip mainly because the whole city smelt like waffles and chocolate. After the tour we had 2 hours free time to eat waffles, chocolate, and try the famous Belgian beer. (Solely for the cultural experience).
Around Brussels..
Later in the day it was time to drive to Paris! We arrived to Paris in the evening and were to far from the city to do anything, but the next day would be extremely busy!
The next day we went to the Chateau de Versailles! We had a tour around the extremely busy palace which made sense on this extremely busy day…
Later in the day we rode the extremely busy subway to the city centre and went to the Eiffel Tower!
We waited in line under the sun for what seemed forever, but eventually made it to the top and took in the incredible view from the very top of the tower!
After the tower we needed dinner and after dinner we need to get crêpes!
The next day was full of taking the subway to see different things.
First we went to see the Arc de Triomphe..
And then to Notre Dame..
And then to the Lourve..
At the Lourve we decided to not spend all day in line to see the Mona Lisa, but instead we chose a “guided city tour” by segway! We got to drive all around Paris and see the sites by segway!
After the greatest segway ride of my life, we walked along the Seine River and went for lunch. For lunch we had gratin and red wine. (Solely for the cultural experience).
We also did this touristy thing that I am very ashamed of..
Later that day we took a boat tour around the Seine River, which felt a lot like a “guided city tour”..
In the evening we had enough time to take the busy, and this time very stinky subway to visit the Sacré-Cœur!
The next morning we left Paris..to be continued in part 2.
